Good post, I believe feedback can be very helpful as long as the sample size is big enough. I write about it here: http://www.texasstartupblog.com/2008/06/09/startu...

Great points Jon. One cannot under emphasize the importance of getting a product out. I would encourage teams to plan their products around incrementally cohesive features. This means orchestrate and sequence your product features such that they build on each other and at any point, you should be in a position to demo something, however small. Its one thing getting feedback on your idea but I think you get better quality feedback once people can see a product (or part of a product). We (at Filtrbox) received the best ideas with a stripped down incremental product during Techstars because once people saw and used the limited feature product, they had a better understanding of where our idea was heading. I would also like to echo your sentiments on the notion of "competition". Its not a competition during Techstars because you are all building different products. However, on Investor Day, it looks competitive because by nature every team is putting their best forward because you are all potentially competing for the same dollars. Investor Day is just like any pitch that you are going to do to investors after Techstars, except that its compressed into one day and you have many investors as your audience. So treat it just like you would do any pitch to investors. Give you best pitch on that day, bring your 'A' game on that day. My advice would be, do not be distracted by trying to outdo other teams HOWEVER watch the other teams and appreciate (and emulate) what they are doing correctly. Once again, great post Jon. Very well thought out.

Jon, while these things are all true, since I have heard you talk about them many, many times, you forgot something: have fun too! There is always a little time for play after a long day of work!
